Community

GTC Financial and its team members are actively involved in a range of charitable and community service activities. This includes sponsoring achievement awards at both Gladstone State High and Toolooa State High Schools, donating to most major charities including the local Relay for Life event. As noted in the Careers Section, GTC Financial offers Traineeships to school leavers. In 10 years, we have helped 11 young people become accountants, a fact that we are very proud of.

Leukaemia Foundation World's Great Shave - Be Brave and Shave
On Friday 11 March, GTC Financial will be taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation World's Greatest Shave.  Since 1998, World's Greatest Shave has raised in excess of $106,000,000 and is the biggest source of income for the Foundation.  Every hour, someone in Australia is diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma.  Every two hours, someone dies from one of these blood cancers.

To help raise funds for this worthy cause, GTC Financial's staff will be transformed into multi-coloured, hair-spray-packed, wild-wig-wearing people for one day.  If you would like to make an donation, please click here

2010 Salvation Army Adopt-A-Family-For-Christmas Appeal
This Christmas, GTC Financial chose to support the Salvation Army's Adopt-A-Family-For-Christmas Appeal.  Our family was made up of a couple with three boys and one girl.  We were asked to donate presents, non-perishable food and other essential items.  The Salvation Army was very pleased to receive our donation and all our staff were able to experience the spirit of giving this Christmas.  If you wish to support the Salvation Army, please click here.

2010 Gladstone State High's Accounting Award Winner
GTC Financial would like to congratulate the winner of the GTC Financial Accounting Subject Award at Gladstone State High - Sarah Stieler.  2010 has been a very successful year for Sarah.  On top of winning the Accounting prize, Sarah was also awarded Business Person Of The Year as well as receiving the subject awards for Maths A and Business Communications and Technology.  Next year, Sarah will start studying for her Bachelor of Accounting and Diploma of Professional Practice at Central Queensland University.  In the future Sarah hopes to finish her degree and go on to study to become either a CPA or CA.  It was lovely to have Sarah come and join us for morning tea and we wish her all the best for the years to come.  GTC Financial believes that it is an honour to be able to support high-achieving students at both Gladstone State High and Toolooa State High by sponsoring their Accounting subject awards.

GTC Charity Golf Day

There was no fudging the numbers on the scorecards on Sunday 3 October as golfers teed off at the GTC Financial Charity Golf Day.  The local accounting team kept a close eye on the figures to ensure the event was a success.   The golf day raised valuable funds for research into heart disease, now the leading cause of death in Australia, accounting for 34% of all deaths. Our Managing Director Neville Hughes enjoyed the opportunity to swop his calculator for a club to support such vital medical research.  “It was great for people to team up with family, friends and workmates, have some fun, raise some money and win some fantastic prizes.”

The Gladstone Variety Charity Ball
The 9th Annual Variety Charity Ball was held on Saturday 30 October.  This night raised much-needed funds for children in Gladstone who are sick, disadvantaged or live with special needs.  The ball, hosted by the Rotary Club of Gladstone Sunrise, was held at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre and directly benefited Gladstone children.  GTC Financial supported with wonderful event by donating a framed Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden collectors piece which was auctioned during the evening.  Funds raised went towards funding vital equipment for disabled children and hygiene packs for disadvantaged youths.

Shelter Box Donation - No Ordinary Box

A new shelter box is on its way to help victims of natural disasters overseas thanks to GTC Financial.  GTC donated $1,000 to the Gladstone Rotary Club to have a shelter box delivered where most needed.  Rotary clubs across the world support the Shelter Box project with each box costing $1,000 to put together and distribute through aid organisations both in Australia and overseas.  GTC Financial’s Kerry Hughes said GTC was so proud to support Rotary in their continuing efforts to fund these Boxes.  “This is such a practical way to provide direct assistance to tsunami, flooding, earthquake and fire victims who are left homeless and urgently need a roof over their head, and the means to boil water and cook food,” Kerry said. “It’s humbling to know our $1,000 will help up to 10 people who are stranded.  The tool kits also help families with chopping firewood and then, when and if possible, to start repairing or rebuilding their homes.”  NRG Power Station also donated funds to this worthy cause.

Kerry Hughes from GTC Financial happy to hand over the cheque to purchase a Shelter Box The Gladstone Rotary Club.
